‘Incredible Creatures’ was filmed across Australia in May, by a San Franciscan production company for National Geographic (USA).
Recording for 50% content of 2 x 60min HD documentary specials, the hectic 10-day schedule covered Stradbroke Is., Sydney, Gosford, Darwin and Launceston, Tas. Featuring extraordinary animal design, Australia’s tasmanian devil, cane toad, frill-necked lizard, platypus and giant beach worm all met the quota.
Captured in HD 59.94Hz/1080i on Sony HDcam F900-3 by Broadcam/Panavision. Crewed by DP Matthew GORMLY, and Jason WAGNER on Sound, and Additional Sound by Sam BEATTIE.
The stand-out facility of the shoot was Tasmania’s ‘Platypus House’ (www.platypushouse.com.au) near Launceston. The joyful staff, insightful professor, excellent viewing areas, and agreeable nature of the Tasmanian platypus made for a great stay.
